Who we are

Our Philosophy

Imagination Station Early Learning Center, Inc. provides a nurturing and compassionate atmosphere for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Our center believes that each child is a unique individual. We are sensitive to each child’s social, emotional, intellectual, physical and cultural needs. We provide a physical environment that is accessible for all children with or without special needs. The classrooms are designed to allow for large group play, small group interactions and individual experiences. Children are engaged in open ended activities, free choice options and purposeful play. Our teachers focus on helping children master language, math & science, social/emotional and sensory skills at age-appropriate levels. Children acquire an ability to learn which is virtually unlimited; free to explore in prepared environments, they develop a sense of purpose, process, completion and success. Our center prides itself on providing high quality early childhood education. We understand that choosing the right center to fit your child’s needs is an important decision and we strive to meet the expectations of every family we serve.

What we do

Our curriculum supports developmentally appropriate practice that aligns with the RI Early Learning and Developmental Standards (RIELDS). Our qualified teachers support children’s learning through a mixture of teacher directed activities as well as facilitating child initiated experiences. The curriculum reflects our belief that children learn best through play at this stage of life.

Our teachers recognize that children all develop at a different rate and have their own individual learning styles. This is taken into consideration when planning curriculum and choosing goals. The standards addressed are Physical Health and Motor Development, Social and Emotional Development, Language Development, Literacy, Cognitive Development, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Creative Arts.

Assessments

At Imagination Station a variety of tools are used to assess the children. Assessing each child helps teachers:

  • Document and describe children’s growth and progress
  • Highlight children’s knowledge, skills, interests and dispositions
  • Make educational decisions and plan instruction and learning activities for individuals and groups of children
  • Determine the learning environment
  • Gather important information from families and communicate children’s progress

Teachers complete written observations of the children throughout the day while they are participating in daily activities. Photos may also be taken at various points in the day of the children completing a skill or task. This is a helpful way for teachers to capture children’s strengths and areas needing improvement. Our teachers are trained to use the information collected to plan curriculum accordingly. Two times a year (Jan. & June), more formal assessments are done. These assessments are aligned with the RIELDS and track the child’s skill on a scale from emerging to mastered. The results of these assessments are shared with parents.

Portfolios

Portfolios are kept for each child in the preschool and pre-k room. The portfolios contain work samples from various points throughout the school year. Entries may include writing samples, artwork, photographs etc. These portfolios are shared with families so they can see the progress the child has made during the school year.

Enrichment

Imagination Station ELC offers enrichment programs for our students. These programs are offered on site during a typical school day. We believe in developing the whole child and going beyond ordinary curriculum. Enrichment programs are designed to enhance the child’s daily learning experience while exposing them to new skills.

Programs may include:

  • Yoga
  • Spanish
  • Cooking
  • Sign language
  • TumbleBus

We host special events throughout the year at our center. Some examples are family involvement events, Project Chick with Casey Farm, Magic Shows, visit from Santa, ocean life presentation and other performances!
